Get started with the BuildBee plugin on OctoPrint


Installing the BuildBee OctoPrint Plugin will give you access to a BuildBee web app features including a powerful cloud slicing engine, secure file management, easy remote access to your 3D printer(s) from any device, queuing (Pro) and presets for printer profiles, print settings and materials.
The BuildBee plugin is designed to remove GCODE files once a print has finished. If you've uploaded GCODE files to OctoPrint, please ensure you have a backup before continuing, as BuildBee may delete them.

Step 1 - Prepare an OctoPrint server

- Create an OctoPrint server on a Raspberry Pi with the following requirements:
  1. Raspberry Pi 3B+ or newer
  2. Octopi 1.3.4 and above
- For setup instructions, please follow the guide one the OctoPrint website.

Step 2 - Select an install method

There are multiple ways in which the BuildBee plugin can be installed on OctoPrint. Simply choose the one you are most comfortable with. Head over to this page to view the installation options: https://buildbee.com/landing/setup

Install using URL

- Open the OctoPrint Plugin Manager.
- Select 'Get More...'

Install via pip

If you would like to develop plugins that work with BuildBee, you may like to install via pip.
- In an OctoPrint virtual environment run pip install "https://octoprint-buildbee-source.buildbee.com/dist/OctoPrint-BuildBee-latest.zip%22
- If you need to set up a virtual environment, follow the instructions here.

Install with ZIP file

- Click here to download the ZIP.
- Open the OctoPrint Plugin Manager.
- Select 'Get More...'
- Select 'Browse...' next to the '...from an uploaded file' field and upload the ZIP file you downloaded before.

Step 3 - Reboot the Raspberry  Pi

- Once the BuildBee plugin has been installed, you will be prompted to restart the Raspberry Pi.
- Select 'Restart now' in the pop up notification that appears.
- Wait for the Raspberry Pi to reboot.

Do not unplug the power supply while the Raspberry Pi is rebooting.

Step 4 - Bind the device to your BuildBee account

- Once the Raspberry Pi has rebooted, you will see the BuildBee local user interface, called the 'maintenance console'.
- Click the blue text the reads 'Click here to add this CloudDock to your BuildBee account'.
- If you aren't already, you will be prompted to login to your BuildBee account. If you don't have one yet, you will need to create one.
- Once logged in, you will be taken to your printer list where you will see your new CloudDock.
